KENS DOJO – Symphony Of Life (2024)

KENS DOJO, the band of Norwegian songwriter / producer Ken Ingwersen has a new album ready for pre order: “Symphony Of Life”. His first album “Reincarnation” was released in 2010 and featured some amazing singers and musicians like Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple), Ken Hensley (ex-Uriah Heep), Tommy LaVerdi (ex-21 Guns), etc.
After eleven years, the 2nd album “The Future Looks Bright” was written during the pandemic and is obviously reflected in the title and some of the lyrics. This time Ken also brought some amazing singers for the album.
But now Ingwersen, apart of being a very good guitarist, has grown as vocalist too, and for the first time he performs all the lead vocals on “Symphony Of Life”. Ingwersen also play bass, while the drums were handled heavily by Bjørn Olav Lauvdal (ex STREET LEGAL).
“Symphony Of Life” an instantly likeable hard rocking album with typical melodies from Scandinavia: layered, plenty of harmonies. There’s strong songs on offer, well arranged and produced, and Ingwersen does a fine job as debut singer…

KEN TAMPLIN – Stand Up And Shout (4CD Box Set) ~ 69 Songs, 22 Unreleased + 6 New Versions (2024) HQ *Exclusive*

Stand Up and Shout” is a 69-song, career-spanning box set from KEN TAMPLIN, a four-time Dove Award winner renowned for his vocal talents, often compared to Lou Gramm, Paul Rodgers, David Coverdale, and his cousin, Sammy Hagar.
This new Girder Records release is monster with 69 songs total on a comprehensive 4 CD collection features 22 unreleased tracks, as well and 6 new exclusive re-sung / re-imagined versions of his best songs. Additionally, the box set includes a massive 12-page, 3,700-word essay detailing Tamplin’s musical history along with an array of memorabilia photos.
Of course there’s material from Tamplin ’80s melodic hard rock band Shout, hard rockers Magdallan, selections from his very good solo albums, unreleased, covers, and more.
Disc 1 is about Tamplin’s 80s band SHOUT. Few will deny the alliance of Chuck King and Ken Tamplin was a great event in the late ‘80’s, especially for fans of melodic hard rock / melodic metal. Those first two albums were very good to great. The mix of songs included here might surprise as the emphasis is on the first release ‘It Won’t Be Long’, 7 out of the 9 original tracks here included.
Often hailed as the most impactful of the three Shout releases with the huge hooks, infectious melodies and astonishingly outrageous guitar shredding, ‘In Your Face’ is represented by only three tracks – perhaps because most fans own this one – but the new version (almost one minute shorter than the original) of the iconic opener “Borderline” makes a strong statement…

SHOUT (Ken Tamplin) – In Your Face [Girder Music Remaster] *HQ*

One of the most rocking and underrated albums from the glorious 1989 year has been remastered in its 30th anniversary: “In Your Face”, by SHOUT. Do you like Whitesnake’s ‘American’ era circa ‘Slip Of The Tongue’? Lion, Hurricane … Then you need to check out this killer disc now.
If one wants a high quality Eighties melodic hard rock band with needed elements in the form of catchy songs, soaring vocals and shredding guitar leads – not to mention the spandex and aqua net to go hand in hand – then you can hardly go wrong with Shout.
Catchy US Melodic hard rock hooks are the motto here, as found on opening cut “Borderline” in combining a firm guitar presence with an engaging layered vocal harmony driven refrain, and follow up number “When The Love Is Gone” from matching the heaviness while upping the forthright melody to even higher levels. In a more commercial vein is “Give Me An Answer”, slickly done with killer guitar work to start and pristine refrain to repeat song’s title in sleek fashion.
Bordering AOR, “Faith, Hope And Love” set apart with its draw-you-in-at-once radio friendly melody and smooth production. A mid-tempo ballad appears in “Waiting On You”, lightening impetus as even guitars and airy keyboards stand alongside Tamplin’s gripping vocal performance.

Black Sabbath legend, TONY IOMMI, will reissue the two albums he recorded with powerhouse singer Glenn Hughes – ”The 1996 The Dep Sessions” and ”Fused”, on October 4 via BMG. Both albums have been remastered including bonus tracks.
The relationship between iconic guitarist Tony Iommi and English musician Glenn Hughes stretches far back into the mid-Eighties. when Hughes sang on the 1986 Black Sabbath album ‘Seventh Star’. Ten years later, Iommi once again collaborated with Hughes for a release that would become known as ‘The 1996 Dep Sessions’, finally released 2004.
The release of ‘The 1996 Dep Sessions’ proved to be a catalyst for Tony and Glenn, who rekindled their collaboration and within a year, released what would be Iommi’s third solo LP in 2005. Titled ”Fused”, the album was recorded at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales and saw Iommi sounding heavier than ever.
”Fused” is chock full of stomping, grinding riffs that saw Iommi tipping his hat to the metal genre he had helped spawn decades before. This remastered reissue includes 3 bonus tracks, one of them being the much sought after iTunes exclusive, which was retired many years ago.

FROST* – Life In The Wires (2024) *HQ*

“Every prog band worth their salt really should do a double album someday, shouldn’t they?” asks FROST* frontman Jem Godfrey. This was one of the initial ideas as the band’s songwriter / keyboardist / vocalist approached working on Frost*’s 5th studio album ”Life in the Wires” due out on Oct. 14th, 2024 on InsideOutMusic.
Fans of the band’s masterful debut album Milliontown (2006) will enjo Frost* revisiting the style that made that debut album one of the most successful prog rock releases of the last 20 years.
Godfrey said; “On previous album ‘Day and Age’ we made it a very specific point: we’re not doing any solos, we’ll do clever arrangements. And we enjoyed that discipline, but this time I thought it might be good to row back on that position a bit. Plus I wanted to have a little bit of a nod to Milliontown with this album, because it’s been nearly 20 years since came out and I’m still proud of it.”..

NATIONWIDE – Echoes (2024) *HQ*

In 2023 longtime friends and songwriters Carl Berglund and Peter Ledin decided to put together the band that they dreamed of, a band that would close the gap between classic AOR and modern hard rock and bring something new to the melodic rock scene. They teamed up with bass player Mikael Hagström (ex-Age of Reflection), and drummer Richard Holmgren (Grand Design) to form the new melodic rock group NATIONWIDE.
The band searched for a completely new voice and are happy to introduce singer Daniel Groth. Daniel was an immediate perfect match, and his voice became the colour and nuances that completed the musical artwork that Peter and Carl had begun sketching.
Mixed & Mastered by genius Erik Martensson, NATIONWIDE debut album “Echoes” is simply one of the best Scandi AOR / Melodic debuts of the year, and one of the best overall. The guys take the best from the 80s/90 and add their own spin, all the time with a clever sense for elegant melodies but not forgetting the rock nerve via sharp riffs & solos. And singer Daniel Groth is an impressive revelation.

TOM PETTY And The Heartbreakers – Long After Dark [Deluxe Edition] (2024) *HQ*

Tomorrow will be released a newly remastered Deluxe Edition of TOM PETTY And The Heartbreakers‘ classic 1982 album ”Long After Dark”, featuring “You Got Lucky,” “Change of Heart,” and “Straight Into Darkness.” This expanded edition includes an extra disc with 12 re-discovered tracks, 7 of which are previously unreleased (featuring “Never Be You”).
The band’s fifth studio album features the hits ‘You Got Lucky’ and ‘Change of Heart’ and reached the top 10 in the US Billboard charts, although Petty would later grumble about being dissatisfied with the final record and the track selection.
Petty: “There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record, that I thought would’ve made it a better album. I left off…four things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door.”
The new Deluxe Edition seeks to address that and features the songs that were lost in the debate over the album’s original direction. Highlights include Petty’s version of ‘Never Be You’ (a country hit for Rosanne Cash), ‘Don’t Make Me Walk the Line’ and an up-tempo version of ‘Ways To Be Wicked’ (previously covered by Lone Justice), recorded at Applewood Studios in Denver, Colorado. Some additional tracks are taken from French TV sessions, including ‘Turning Point’ and the Everly Brothers influenced ‘Keeping Me Alive’…

TODD MICHAEL HALL – Off The Rails [CD version +2] (2024) *HQ*

Riot V vocalist TODD MICHAEL HALL will release his highly-anticipated sophomore album “Off the Rails” via Rat Pak Records on October 18, 2024. Aligning himself once again with Metal Church founding member and guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof, Todd offers the listener 10 new studio tracks (plus 2 bonus on this CD version) of straight-forward classic hard rock music with melody.
“Off The Rails has a classic rock energy with great riffs and melodic vocals, with emotion interspersed throughout,” commented Todd. Regarding Kurdt’s approach to the songwriting on this album, “I wanted to focus on creating guitar-driven music that delivers something outside the realm of what most people would expect from a metal guitarist”.
Songs like “The Doctor”, “Off the Rails”, “Sitting On Top of The World” and “Can’t Get Enough” are testaments to the magic that was created when Todd and Kurdt began to focus on their deep love of classic rock icons like Boston, Rush, Styx, Foreigner and REO Speedwagon.
Todd’s multi-octave voice and Kurdt’s riff writing capabilities create memorable songs that are reminiscent of the artists that inspired them to pursue a career in music. And indeed, this is much more US melodic hard rock oriented than both musicians metallic bands. Catchy songs, with substance, but with a feel-good vibe all the way.

In the late Eighties and early Nineties, the UK rock scene was overflowing with new bands, all set to take on the old guard. Starting life in ’87, SMASH ALLEY made strident steps via some incendiary gigs, packing out local venues with ease. With their demos catching the attention of Metal Forces, Iron Fist and Kerrang!, it wasn’t long before the record labels came a calling in the shape of Virgin, EMI and East West…

This record was completely written by Gary Hughes of TEN, with the arrangements completely decided to be in the vein of classic Magnum. ‘The Tower’ itself was recorded by various members of TEN, including the amazing Vinny Burns (Dare) on guitar.
