DGM – Endless (2024)
Experienced Italian progressive metal act DGM will release their new studio album, “Endless”, on October 18th, 2024, via Frontiers Music. According to the band, “Endless” is the band’s first real concept album. And it’s also the first DGM album that includes many more dynamic and acoustic moments than the past. “If until now we have always pushed on the accelerator and on the power, this time we have chosen to include many more melodic moments, mixing classic progressive rock with parts that are typically in the DGM style.” says guitarist Simone Mularoni.
“Endless” transcends one man’s story through the universality of its concept. We all have moments where we wonder about the paths not traveled. By exploring the plurality of possibilities, this album encourages self-forgiveness and living fully in the journey ahead.
Musically, “Endless” offers a different side from the band which exposes a lot of different influences ranging from 70s Progressive Rock (from Kansas, to Yes and Jethro Tull) to Nineties prog metal with melody. It’s a pretty different album from DGM, much more melodic, expansive ,and with a wide appeal of listeners…

ARIES DESCENDANT – From The Ashes Of Deceit (2024)
Frontiers Records will release next weekend “From The Ashes Of Deceit“, the debut album from ARIES DESCENDANT, a collaboration between melodic metal virtuosos Jonah Weingarten (PYRAMAZE) and Nicklas Sonne (DEFECTO).
While Symphonic metal at its core, “From The Ashes Of Deceit” mixes melodic metal, prog metal, epic orchestration, huge choruses and bombastic production to great effect. The albun has a ‘big sound’ indeed that hovers skillfully on the fine line between majestic and clinical, and with orchestral and keyboard arrangements that wear their “more is more” inclinations like a shiny, gold badge of honor. In terms of heaviness and metallic bite, ARIES DESCENDANT are no slouches. Even when veering off on keyboards / strings-drenched detour, the razor-edged riffs and whirlwind kicks that propel everything are powerful.
Additionally, if you are a G.O.T. fan, from the cover art to some songs / interludes really will please your ears…

DAN HARTMAN – I Can Dream About You [Music On CD reissue] (2024) HQ *Exclusive*
Bringing back another long time out of print ’80s album, reissue label Music On CD is making available again DAN HARTMAN 1984’s “I Can Dream About You“. A key member of the rock band The Edgar Winter Group, Hartman started a solo career in the second half of the Seventies, and “I Can Dream About You” is Dan Hartman’s fifth studio album – his first for MCA Records. This album marked the beginning of his collaboration with longtime songwriting partner Charlie Midnight, with whom he continued to write throughout the decade.
Hartman and Midnight co-wrote eight of the ten tracks, with the title track written solely by Hartman and the closing track, “Electricity,” written by Hartman and Nona Hendryx (from Labelle). Production was handled by Hartman himself and by Jimmy Iovine, a renowned for his work with artists like Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks, to name a few.
The combined efforts of Hartman, Midnight, and Iovine resulted in a focused and consistently rewarding album. And of course, the top session musicians participating including Richie Zito, Michael Thompson, Joe Pizzullo, Winston Ford, etc.
The first part of this album works like perfect mid-Eighties soundtrack – any of the songs could have been on any film from the era, fun and pumping. If fact, the title track was composed for the cult movie “Streets of Fire”, a terrific soundtrack CD btw…

EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE – Wake Up Screaming [Japanese Edition] *HQ*
Although it never gained serious notoriety, Memphis, Tennessee 4-piece EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE second album “Wake Up Screaming” is a true gem. As requested, here’s the Japanese CD edition.
In 1987 EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE had burst on to the scene and were advancing nicely with their bluesy-imbued style of hard rock. The buzz originated from their energy-packed live shows on the venue circuit between Memphis and Nashville made some noise, and soon label A&R reps scouted the band. One, in particular, came to see them in April of 1989. On the night in question, the act that EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE played with had refused to let them use their lighting or sound equipment, which then forced the band to audition in a warehouse studio instead. They impressed the man from the record label so well that, with just 13 shows under their belts, the legendary Clive Davis signed EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE to Arista Records.
The band released a strong self-titled rocking record in 1990, much in the vein of US hard rock bands at the time. However with this second effort “Wake Up Screaming” is where EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE shows their maturity as performers & songwriters. The one and only Jimi Jamison, also from Memphis and friend of the band, provides backing vocals on this album.
Their superbly well-structured songs of bluesy melodic rock, packed with dynamic change-ups in timing and tempo, plus an abundance of melodic nuances, makes this album one of the best from the end of an era…

LEPPARDMANIA – A Tribute To Def Leppard [2021 reissue]
As requested, here’s “LEPPARDMANIA : A Tribute To Def Leppard“, which reunited the L.A. hard rock / metal royalty to pay tribute to British icons Def Leppard.
This is a pretty fun cover / tribute album – it’s always cool to hear interpretations from artists who come from the same era and similar genre, who generally do like the songs they are covering, because that produce the best results. Among the musicians involved we find Kelly Hansen of Foreigner, Paul Shortino of Rough Cutt, Jason McMaster of Dangerous Toys, John Corabi of The Dead Daisies, the great Joe Lynn Turner, Phil Lewis & Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns, the late Jani Lane of Warrant, and more.
Some versions are melodic as the originals, however many are done with that ‘dirty’ L.A. feeling, that’s the idea: give the songs an American hard rock edge.
This is the 2021 reissue featuring the good, original ‘Rock version’ of ”Rock, Rock (Till You Drop)’‘ performed by Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot – the previous release of LEPPARDMANIA included a horrible ‘techno / remix’.
As example, John Corabi delivers a kick ass version of…

DEF LEPPPARD – First Strikes 1978-1979 [Unreleased Material] HQ *Exclusive*
“First Strikes 1978-1979” is a 19-track CD of pure early DEF LEPPPARD magic, an unauthorized release but the sound quality is outstanding. The compilation features the very first DEF LEPPPARD recordings – released and unreleased.
“First Strikes 1978-1979″ includes the official Def Leppard EP 7” 1979, the professional demo ”First Strike” released by previous Def Leppard management trying to cash in on the success of Pyromania and not approved by the band, standalone singles ‘Wasted’ (1979), ‘Hello America’ (1979) and B-side ‘Good Morning Freedom (March 1980), and a stupendous, unreleased live session at Live Paris Theatre, London, August 1979.
At the time of this bootleg “First Strikes 1978-1979″ CD appeared (2013) all the music here was unreleased. Not so long ago Def Leppard put out the Box Set ‘The Early Years’, and the finally the EP and the singles were officially released.
But the 7-track demo ”First Strike” never will be released, nor Live Paris Theatre live recording. And believe us, sound quality is awesome, first rate.
A collectors item

SHIRAZ LANE – For Crying Out Loud (Japanese Edition +1 plus European bonus track) *HQ*
After some self-released singles and an EP, Finland’s SHIRAZ LANE were signed by Frontiers Records and presented this debut CD titled “For Crying Out Loud“, surprising the hard rock community with its confidence. As requested, here’s the Japanese Edition including a bonus track, plus the bonus cut for the European / digital market.
The press release sheet stated; “the debut album ‘For Crying Out Loud’ shows that the band has learnt all the lessons from the giants Guns N’ Roses, Skid Row or Aerosmith, and is ready to take on the world!” Well, there’s no doubt all members in Shiraz Lane have grown listening to these classic acts, but they add their own talent and personal spin to that classic hard rock sound.
Taking the aforementioned bands as reference, to say late Eighties influence is to say that Shiraz Lane plays melodic hard rock with an edge of the big hair, US sleazy variety. Listening, I would describe them indeed as a mash up of Guns N’ Roses, Skid Row, early Dynazty and maybe a little Poison / Cinderella, but with the unmistakable Scandi / Finnish touch…

GABRIELLE DE VAL and The Dragonlords (Steve Overland, Robin McAuley) – Tiger (2024) *HQ*
Fireworks Magazine & Escape Music are releasing this special album, a Numbered Limited Edition only physical CD, of GABRIELLE DE VAL and The Dragonlords, entitled “Tiger“. De Val is a terrific female singer with true love for classic AOR / Melodic Rock who pleased us with her debut album ‘Kiss In a Dragon Night’ last year.
Well, this is not the second Gabrielle de Val solo album. The original idea behind the ”Tiger” album was to be a collection of songs left of the original Gabrielle De Val debut CD, along with different versions of songs that appeared on there.
But all the singers and the label had such fun putting Gabrielle’s 1st album together that even more songs were recorded, with many of the guest duo vocalists doing lead vocals themselves. All the singers that appear on this album also appeared on ‘Kiss In a Dragon Night’, hence the Dragonlords’ group name.
So along with originals by Gabrielle De Val like opener ‘Think Like a Man’, which she has been playing live for the past year, and ‘I’m In Chains’ – both songs written by Steve Overland and Tommy Denander, we also Last In Line’s Andrew Freeman take on the classic Magnum song ‘Midnight (You Won’t Be Sleeping’). Seven’s Mick Devine perform a superb rocked-up version of the Chesney Hawkes #1 hit ‘The One And Only’, complete with guitar solo from Fredrik Folkare (Nordic Union).
MSG / Black Swan vocalist Robin McAuley takes lead on two original tracks, one of which, ‘Bowmore’, was specially written for this release. FM’s Steve Overland does his usual superlative job on The Val’s ‘Pay For the Lonely Nights’ while Mark Boals similarly does a great rendition of ‘When Midnight Comes’…

ALL STARS – NWOBHM All Stars [Japanese Edition] *HQ*
As requested, here’s a release not all classic metal / hard rock fans are aware of: NWOBHM All Stars. ”NWOBHM All Stars” is a one-off release from Grand Slamm Records Inc. in 1991, however the album first was released in Japan-only by Polydor, this one featured here, in 1990, with a slightly different cover art.
This was the brainchild of talented British producer / songwriter Lea Hart (Fastway, Ya Ya), helped by renowned producer Chris O’Shaughnessy (Tommy Shaw, Kooga). For ALL STARS Hart brought in an array of notable musicians & vocalists from the British hard rock and heavy metal scene, including Dennis Stratton (ex- Iron Maiden, ex- Praying Mantis), Paul Samson (Samson), Tino Troy (Praying Mantis), Biff Byford, Nibbs Carter and Nigel Glockler (Saxon), Paul Di’Anno (ex- Iron Maiden), Neil Murray (ex- Black Sabbath, ex- Whitesnake), Kim McAuliffe and Denise Dufort (Girlschool), and Scott Gorham (Thin Lizzy), as well as full band performances from First Strike and Samson.
Check out the track list below and each musician performing on each track: this seriously rocks!

BENNY MARDONES – Benny Mardones (1989) *HQ*
As requested, here’s perhaps the best or at least most complete album from iconic ’80s crooner BENNY MARDONES >his 1989 self-titled album “Benny Mardones” on Curb Records. It was Mardones’ first album since 1981’s LP ”Too Much to Lose” and its hit-single “Into the Night”, following his battle with a drug addiction and other personal issues.
After his successful ’81 LP Mardones was dropped by Polydor not for being a bad seller, on the contrary, but Benny wasn’t able fulfill promotional press interviews, tour, or being sober at the second album sessions. Mardones resulted somehow ‘lost’ during the decade, releasing a couple of very good indie EP’s, however not distributed nation-wide.
The industry simply forgot BENNY MARDONES. However, in 1989, a Where Are They Now? Arizona radio segment spurred Los Angeles DJ Scott Shannon to add “Into the Night” to his playlist. The exposure ultimately rocketed the song back into the national charts where it reached No. 20 in the first week of July 1989.
In a twist of fate, the outcast Benny Mardones scored the longest-charting single of the 1980s by a solo artist (the 1981 weeks + the 1989 weeks). Industry sharks saw the opportunity and signed Benny. With most the songs co-written with Mark Mangold (Drive She Said, Touch), ”Benny Mardones” is a wonderful 1989 melodic AOR production with some impressive musicians involved such as Jeff Porcaro, guitarists Michael Thompson & Dave Amato, Mark Mangold on keys & synths, etc…

As requested, here’s the fantastic “Poetry & Motion“, 1992’s album from MARA, a Cincinnati based outfit formed in the Eighties. A cult band and album – they recorded at least two more – musically this recording has everything a fan of quality 80 / 90s rock music needs; from Hard Rock to AOR and Melodic Rock plus a pinch of progressive.
And if we speak of quality that also encompasses intelligent songwriting, second-to-none musicianship, and a sumptuous production sound. At places the music bring to mind excellent act C.I.T.A, however MARA are much more melodic and genre-blending.
This is commercial melodic / hard with a very accessible sound but composed, arranged & executed with substance. “Sentimental Warning” and “Justify” are an instant rocking favorites, if you need classic American AOR “Voices In The Rain” is just a wonderful, “Second Best” is a strong clever ballad, and for another blast of uptempo AOR push play on “September Rain”.
You can’t get wrong with MARA’s ”Poetry & Motion”, a must in your collection not matter your specific Rock music preference…

INFRARED – Reflections [’80s recordings remastered] (2024)
Metallic Blue Records is unearthing the lost recordings from San Diego based 80s rockers INFRARED. Titled “Reflections“, the CD compiles the three recording sessions the band did between 1987-1989.
Since its inception in 1985 Infrared was a regular at local venues like the Bacchanal, the Spirit Club, and Iguana’s in Tijuana. Their brand of classic hard rock and mid-80s American Metal attracted many fans, and so will do this CD.
The band recorded its first professional demo in 1987, and after some line up changes, a second batch of new songs in 1988. Both are well recorded, and if you like the very first QUEENSRYCHE / 1984 trad metal sound, you’ll enjoy INFRARED. Lead singer Don DuZan is very Geoff Tate-ish, with a wide perfect pitch register. This is classic American metal with melody, and of course there’s reference to CRIMSON GLORY, HEIR APPARENT, VICIOUS RUMORS, BARREN CROSS, etc.
Looking for the elusive record deal, the band relocated to Los Angeles in 1989 and by their manager suggestion changed the band name to “Martial Law”, and recorded a 3-track demo with a more ‘LA sound’ but still metal. It’s well produced, they even made a video clip to try MTV…
